Cheers,
Susan Boone Durkee [See attached letter below]

Being the shy hermit that I am, I just had, for me, a very unusal weekend . As part of the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artist’s show in Stamford that opened on Friday there was a weekend long symposium. The cost for members was $200 which I was reluctant to spend with the possibility of needing to buy a new snow blower... In fact as I was in this process, Carol called and asked how it was going, meaning the snow blower, and I told her I had fixed it and was in the middle of signing up for the weekend. She was happy. Had been pushing me to do this all week, and before. The event was fantastic. It was a celebration of the work of Daniel Greene who is probably the country's eminent portrait painter. He did a three hour oil portrait demonstration on Saturday, and sat for a two hour portrait in pastel done by three renowned portrait artists, Igor Babailov, Michael DelPriore and Wende Caporale, Greene's wife, on Sunday. I was really inspired despite being drugged up to keep a sudden running nose in check. I realized I really needed to get back to working from life as much as possible instead being so tied to photographs... So thanks to my loving wife and also to a fellow portrait painter, Susan Boone Durkee, whom I had never met before, but encouraged me to attend when I was dropping off my painting of Carol and Max for the show, I feel energized ...
Love, David [Shulz]

Dear Jeanine,
I just wanted to tell you again how much I enjoyed and appreciated the Faces of Winter 2012 portrait symposium at UCONN last week. Your staff of volunteers was very helpful and gracious and you were nothing short of a force of nature in your care and attention to every detail. The community of portrait artists and representational painters is fortunate to have you as one of our standard bearers.
Here is wishing you and all of us a healthy, productive and creative 2012. Thanks to your efforts we're off to a good start.
Best regards and grazie,
John A. Varriano (Former President, Art Students' League)
